What can be protected as an industrial design?
Any feature of shape, configuration, pattern, ornamentation or composition of lines or colours applied to an article that is new or original and appeals to the eye can be registered as a design.
How long does design registration last?
A registered design has an initial protection period of 10 years, renewable for a further 5 years (total 15 years maximum) from the date of registration.
What is a GI tag?
A Geographical Indication is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or reputation attributable to that origin — such as Darjeeling Tea or Kolkata Rosogolla.
Can an individual apply for a GI tag?
GI tags are typically applied for by producer associations, cooperatives or state government bodies representing a group of producers in the relevant geographical area.
