What can I claim in a consumer court?
Is there a time limit to file a consumer complaint?
Yes — 2 years from the date of the cause of action. However, the Commission can condone delay if you provide sufficient reason, so file as soon as possible.
Can a business file in consumer court?
Under the 2019 Act, a person who buys goods or services for commercial purposes is not a consumer. However, sole proprietors buying goods for livelihood purposes may qualify. We assess eligibility case by case.
Can I file a consumer complaint online?
Yes — the National Consumer Helpline at consumerhelpline.gov.in allows online complaint filing. We advise on the appropriate forum and assist with online filing for maximum convenience.
